Children's Bedroom Storage Ideas
The best way to keep your child's room tidy is to make sure that there is a home for everything, and that everything is always kept in the same place. This way, your child will know where an item is stored, where to get it from and, eventually, where to put it back.
Plastic toy boxes that can be stacked one on top of another are a good option. They are cheap and colorful, and come in a wide range of sizes. Label each box with a picture of the items stored inside and the name of the items written clearly below. Your child will soon begin to recognise the words associated with the pictures, and you can encourage your child to be tidy by turning the chore of clearing away into a picture and word game.
Shoeboxes covered with fabric or wallpaper can be used for storing small toys and crayons. Stack them one on top of the other on a shelf, or tuck them away neatly under a bed. When stacking storage boxes, avoid putting heavy items into high places, in case the child pulls them over.
A fabric shoe tidy can be adapted for storing small toys as well as shoes. Mark it with the letters of the alphabet and place items that start with the appropriate letter in each space: tidying up can then become both a game and an educational exercise.
A peg rail is another good idea for a young child s bedroom. A length of timber with small wooden books attached is seen in many Shaker-style rooms. They are ideal for hanging coals, bags, laundry sacks and colorful drawstring bags full of toys. Some peg rails have a shelf attached at the top, and when positioned at picture rail height, this offers an ideal storage and display area for treasured toys and ornaments. The shelf also acts as an attractive alternative to a wallpaper border around the room. They are readily found and very cheap to make.
